Hello world, and welcome to Real Homemaking!

When you study programming, the first thing you learn is how to make a small program that says “Hello World!”  I thought it would be fitting to have that as the opening line to my Real Homemaking blog.

Why is this relevant? Well, I started off my career as a Software Developer…

About Me

My name is Ashleigh, born in 1985 (you can do the maths). I’m a wife, a mom to three wonderful children, a programmer, and a homemaker with a heart anchored in faith, tradition, and the gentle rhythm of home life.

I am passionate about resource management and efficiency, I love logical challenges, planning, reading and learning in topics that spark my interest. I especially love learning how to live more effectively and efficiently. Whether it is a book about making the most out of your living spaces, your time, your money, or your life, I read them. I also enjoy a good Science Fiction (Stargate-SG1 is my all-time favourite) and pop punk rock of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

This paints the secular picture of my life, but I need to say that I’m also deeply rooted in my faith in God. I love studying the Bible and treasure the time I am able to be alone with God during my busy week.

Why Real Homemaking?

I started this blog because I got tired of  seeing hundreds of picture perfect and Instagram ready homes on the internet.  Nobody’s home is that perfect in real life..

Most people, with 2 or more children, are just struggling to hang on from minute to minute. Some of them have to hold down a full-time or part-time job on top of it.  I’ve never understood how a person can get a whole house clean in under 2 hours. It takes me 2 hours just to get the kitchen clean.

So, I’m going to be real with you.  This is real life, a real home and a real family with real kids.  I seldom put on make-up in the morning because I barely get 10 minutes to shower and dress without someone shouting “Mommy”. And this is where I will share my hints and tips with you.

What I hope to achieve through this website and blog

There are a few things that I have really wanted to do.  I want to write a book someday, and I would really like that book to help give women the skills they need to management their homes and families.

In the meantime, I have this site and blog.  And my aim with Real Homemaking is to do the same thing.  To help you develop the skills you need to manage your homes and families.
